Ghost Ships
‘Ghost Ships’ is a work for wireless wearable performance interface and intelligent lighting systems. Through a wearable microcontroller and body sensor system designed by the artists, a single performer is able to ‘play’ the entire theatrical space (light, sound, video) through arm and hand gestures. Custom software allows an intelligent moving light system to be controlled that enables movement (pan, tilt, zoom) and variations in light parameters (colour, focus, diffusion, level) in response to the performer’s gestures. The project explores the idea that gestural control can successfully operate across multiple media contexts simultaneously, establishing new possibilities for gesture-sensed performance in live performance contexts.
